Research Innovation Circle
The Research Innovation Circle (RIC) of GPMed was founded in 2022 and is a forum that focusses on innovations in healthcare research.
In terms of content, the Research Innovation Circle focuses on research with real-world data, adaptive study designs, platform studies and studies with medical devices, including software as a medical device.
The RIC currently comprises eight representatives from academic research, CROs and research departments in the pharmaceutical industry. The members are personally nominated by the GPMed Board. The participants meet six times a year to exchange and discuss pioneering innovations in the research sector. Among other things, the meetings result in topics for GPMed training events, scientific publications (JMIR Quality for RWD, https://doi.org/10.2196/34204) or GPMed statements on relevant issues. These are shared and discussed with stakeholders from science, politics or authorities in order to sustainably improve the framework conditions for applied clinical research in Austria.
GPMed’s statement on EU Biotech Act
GPMed welcomes the EU Biotech Act as an important step toward strengthening Europe’s position in global life sciences. The proposed framework aims to reduce regulatory barriers, accelerate innovation, and improve the translation of scientific discoveries into real-world healthcare solutions. For Austria and the wider EU, the Act represents a timely opportunity to create a more competitive, efficient, and innovation-friendly environment for clinical research and biotechnology.
The secondary use of real-world data (RWD) is becoming increasingly important in health research. However, the multitude of applicable European and national regulations poses a challenge.
The GPMed has now created a comprehensive guide for the secondary use of RWD in research projects!
